The Librarian Corps, a new initiative through the New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) Institute for Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Learning and Teaching (ICLRLT), has been created to support New Mexico library workers of all stripes in finding, building, and sharing OER that will benefit patrons across the state. In June of 2024, library workers from all over New Mexico gathered at the beautiful New Mexico Highlands University campus in Las Vegas, New Mexico, for the inaugural meeting of the Librarian Corps. Please see the article in the NMLA newsletter for more information about this gathering.
The Librarian Corps intends to help empower all libraries, regardless of patronage, to grow and utilize Open Educational Resources (OERs) to meet the unique needs of New Mexico communities. The product of our collaborative exploration and idea exchange was a Problems of Practice Innovation Plan, submitted to the ICLRLT with the objective of determining what issues we may encounter; how we plan to move forward; and what support we need. Future collaborations include planned strands during the ICLRLT mini-summits in October, January and April, with the launch of an OER catalog to benefit patrons across the state in June of 2025 at the ICLRLT Summer Summit.
The Innovation Plan video we created during the 2024 ICLRLT Summer Summit on our YouTube channel discusses further ideas on how the Librarian Corps can help promote OER for all in New Mexico.
Would you like to join the Librarian Corps on our journey to expand the OER options for New Mexicans? Please contact us via any method seen in the profile to the left and we can discuss OER for all!
